How Our Event Planning Brings Joy to Busy Hosts: 35 Years of Heartfelt Elegance Unveiled

When I first started making faux cakes, it was out of frustration.

I’d started out making candles that looked like desserts. The candles looked good enough to eat and they had the aroma that gently wafts through the door of a bakery. From fresh berries to rich Madagascar vanilla to fluffy pastries, I tested each and every scent to make sure that each candle owned an aroma that tempted the senses.

The problem was that the candles looked too good to eat. Well, at least that’s what I was told. My customers wouldn’t burn them because they just wanted to look at them.

That was where the frustration came. 

In order for my customers to continue to purchase candles, I actually needed them to burn them. No burning meant no repeat business.  Can you see why I was frustrated?

I suppose I should mention as a side note that I was already creating things like faux  biscuits, pastries and breads before I delved into cakes, but these were for the more “primitive” and “Americana” decor crowd. The look was very drab and it was a completely different look from my dessert candles.

In my frustration, I decided to make desserts that didn’t have to be burned. The cake below was my very first faux cake revealed to the public.

If my customers made the statement that my candles were “too pretty to burn,” then I had to create something that didn’t need to be burned.

Why?

Candles are made from wax. Wax is costly. If I didn’t have repeat buyers because the candles were never burned, then I wasn’t selling enough to cover my wax expenses. So I took the same concept of making pretty desserts and just made them props. 

The idea was to give my customers something pretty and elegant that would stand out while keeping their concept of looking too good to burn.

Of course there have been those onlookers who have asked me with one eyebrow raised, “Why would I buy a faux cake? What would I even do with one?

They’re valid questions, and there have been many answers.

First, there are many customers who want faux cakes to decorate their homes much like you’d use a beautiful vase of flowers. Then there are those who want to use them as centerpieces for special dinners, parties, and events to use alongside a vase (or two) of flowers. 

I’ve even had the pleasure of replicating faux desserts that served as a memory of a dessert that a loved one used to make.

Then there are the parties and events when customers use faux cakes as a centerpiece display that will continue to shine throughout their shindig while they serve pre-sliced, less costly, and more delicious cake options as many have complained about the taste of their costly, beautiful, edible cakes being less than desired. These are all good reasons to buy and use a faux cake.

Let’s call it cake empowerment!

I can attest to a few times when I’ve had a beautiful cake that didn’t withstand the warmer, uncontrolled temperatures of a room (or the outdoor sun) during an event. The cake was not the highlight. I can tell you that!  A faux cake stands in as a replacement for the edible cake, holding up beautifully, shining like a golden star flickering its glowing dust upon everything that comes its way.
